Model Performance in Fire Prevention Symposium State Representative Nomination Form

Vision 20/20 is sponsoring the fourth national Model Performance in Fire Prevention Symposium on March 10-12 in Fairfax, Virginia.  This event will showcase successful efforts in all areas of fire prevention that have potential for reducing fire loss in communities throughout the United States, and we are looking for nominations from each state for attendees.

This year we are able to accept two nominations, one from state fire marshals and one from the state fire chiefs associations.  It is most important that individuals who represent their state be in a position to communicate best practices in prevention to a wide and influential audience.  We are able to cover the cost of travel, lodging, and meals during the conference for state representatives. Funding from DHS/FEMA Assistance to Fire Act Grants supports this important opportunity for the U.S. fire service.

As a key person responsible for coordinating fire prevention activities in your state, we ask for your assistance in identifying the best person to participate as your state representative.  The person you nominate should have the capacity to share information with personnel from fire prevention disciplines, state-wide, following the Symposium. Past representatives are welcome but must be nominated again and must have fulfilled their previous obligation by reporting to Vision 20/20.

For approval, the nominated representative must commit that they will:

  1. Attend at all sessions of the Symposium
  2. Make information and materials available to personnel from all fire prevention disciplines within their home state – especially new, free tools designed to improve community risk reduction efforts
  3. Return a short summary report of activities following the Symposium informing us of how information/materials were shared and how many departments were reached, or will be reached within a 6-month period following the Symposium

We are encouraged by the response from those who have attended past symposia or heard of the value of being there from their colleagues. Many are eager to know how they might be considered for the position of state representative. To capture that interest, notice will go out to other state fire prevention organizations letting them know that if any of their members would like to be considered for nomination, they should contact you with that request.

In addition to state representatives who are funded, other personnel are encouraged to attend through open registration. The open registration fee of $200 will cover all materials and meals during the event. The negotiated room rate at the Hyatt Fair Lakes is $99/night and a link to the Vision 20/20 Symposium room block will be included when online registration opens. Look for announcement of open registration at www.strategicfire.org.  You can also sign up for news alerts from Vision 20/20 or follow us on Twitter @strategicfire or on Facebook.

Please respond by December 30, 2015, with your nomination or to let me know if you are working to identify someone for this position. If I do not hear from you by then, I will contact other personnel for this state nomination.

You can contact me if you should have any questions, and thank you for your assistance!
