FY2017 AFG Grant CRR Resources

As you are preparing for your FY2017 AFG Fire Prevention and Safety Grant application, there are some resources from The Vision 20/20 Project that may be of help. These are resources that you can use in helping to write your grant and, when you receive your grant, in delivering it.

What is Community Risk Reduction? CRR is a process to identify and prioritize local risks, followed by the integrated and strategic investment of resources (emergency response and prevention) to reduce their occurrence and impact.

CRR Risk Assessment Guide An online Community Risk Assessment Guide (also available as a  PDF) to help fire departments and other organizations to conduct a basic or more complex assessment of risks within their community. Ultimately, the results of the risk assessment can be used to develop a CRR plan. These are the first two steps of the six-step process
CRR Planning Guide  The Community Risk Reduction Planning Guide takes you through the remaining four steps of the CRR planning process.
Guide to Home Safety Visits The online Guide to Home Safety Visits  demonstrate best practices for home safety visits. Developed by the Washington State Association of Fire Marshals and Vision 20/20, this online guide is an invaluable tool for  you to use when doing home safety visits in your community as part of a Community Risk Reduction program.

Fire Safety Materials Generator Developed by a team of fire safety and communications experts using messages that were tested with different audiences, these materials can be used to enhance your Community Risk Reduction and Home Safety Visit programs.

IFSTA Resource One Training In partnership with IFSTA ResourceOne, and with funding from the FEMA Assistance to Firefighter Grant program, Vision 20/20 has developed free training programs. A number of jurisdictions across the country are having all of their front-line personnel take this online training.

  • Model Performance Measurement and Evaluation and Community Risk Reduction.Model Performance Measurement and Evaluation demonstrates how to improve evaluation measurements, primarily for fire prevention programs, including public education, plan review, code enforcement and investigation efforts. These same evaluation tools also apply for other injury prevention and mitigation programs.
  • Community Risk Reduction introduces the student to Community Risk Reduction as a way to create a safer community. It presents the basic elements necessary to prepare a station-based community risk reduction plan and provides an understanding and motivation for implementing CRR practices.
Home Safety Visit App The Home Safety Visits App provides a series of brief videos that can be shown on smartphones and tablet computers when doing home safety visits and focuses on cooking, heating, smoke alarms and the speed of fire. They are available in seven languages and can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. You can also stream or embed the videos on your website. Check them out!

Fire is Everyone’s Fight  Fire is Everyone’s Fight™ is designed to unite the fire service and many others in a collaborative effort to reduce home fire injuries, deaths and property loss. It invites fire departments, safety advocates, community groups, schools and others to rally behind a common and compelling theme. USFA and its partners will communicate and reinforce key lessons across many proven fire safety and prevention initiatives and programs.
CRR Logo Vision 20/20 has developed a CRR logo for fire departments to use in promoting Community Risk Reduction in your area branding CRR by providing you with a consistent logo that you can use on your web site, printed literature, or vehicles.
Reports and Presentations V2020 has compiled a series of reports and presentations relating to CRR that may be helpful in promoting CRR in your department and community.
